GE side-by-side refrigerator won’t dispense ice or water ?

Problem: When you push a cup under the ice dispenser the light goes very dim and no water/ice comes out, also if you turn the light on on the front panel the same problem occurs (light goes very dim).Or the light for ice/ water not working on panel board.

Solution: The main circuit board of the refrigerator may need to be replaced.

In researching I found numerous problems associated with the circuit board (WR55X10552) for the model GSS20IEPHWW/ GSS23LSTASS

refrigerator. You will need to call GE and find out if your refrigerator is in the replacement program. Be firm in having your appliance repaired under THEIR program. They say there is a cutoff for the replacement program, and that you may need to pay for the service call, but the parts should be free.

If you decide to replace the board yourself, just shop around for the best price. The replacement board comes with the instructions. It does state that you may need to cut a wire when installing the new board, but for the GSS20IEPHWW refrigerator cutting the wire was not necessary.

After nearly ordering a new board (around $145) which was out of stock, I found a website that lists this part as under a recall until further notice.

I then called GE and they confirmed this free replacement program and set up a service call free of charge to replace board. You have to call GE customer relations at 800-386-1215 and go through the various menus until you get to a representative. If your Fridge was manufactured between May 2005 and August 2006 it is in this program.
