Parking Brake Cables Adjustments
Basically its for all 2001 Lexus models.
Adjustment
- Slowly depress the parking brake pedal all the way, and count the number of clicks. It should be 3-6 clicks at 68.3 lbf. (300 N).
- Adjust the parking brake pedal travel as follows:
- Depress the parking brake pedal 3 notches to make a room for the procedure, and loosen the lock nut.
- Return the parking brake pedal to the original position.
- Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake pedal travel is correct.
- Depress the parking brake pedal 3 notches to make a room for the procedure, and tighten the lock nut to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
- Return the parking brake pedal to the original position.
- Check whether parking brake drags or not.
- When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the parking brake pedal indicator light lights up.
Before adjusting the parking brake, make sure that the rear brake shoe clearance has been adjusted.
- Remove the parking brake lever hole cover.
- Loosen the lock nut and the turn adjusting nut until the lever travel is correct.
- Tighten the lock nut to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
- Install the parking brake lever hole cover.
- Depress the parking brake pedal (A/T), or lever (M/T). Hold the No. 1 wire adjusting nut using a wrench and loosen the lock nut.
- Release the parking brake pedal (or lever).
- For A/T, turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake pedal travel is at 7-9 notches at 67.5 lbf. (300 N).
- For M/T, turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is at 4-6 notches at 45 lbf. (200 N).
- Hold the wire adjusting No. 1 nut using a wrench or equivalent tool and tighten the lock nut to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
- Count the number of clicks after depressing and releasing the parking brake pedal (or lever) 3 or 4 times.
- Check whether the parking brake drags or not.
- When operating the parking brake pedal (or lever), check that the parking brake indicator light comes on.
- Loosen the adjuster lock nut and adjuster until the parking brake pedal travel becomes correct.
- If the adjustment cannot be made within the range of travel of the adjuster, remove the propeller shaft and make an adjustment at the pull rod.
- Remove the instrument cluster finish panel end.
- Remove the instrument cluster finish panel center lower.
- Remove the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.1.
- Remove the coin box assy.
- Remove the outer mirror switch assy.
- Remove the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy No.1.
- Remove the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.2.
- Depress the parking brake pedal 5 notches to make room for the procedure, and loosen the lock nut.
- Release the parking brake pedal to the original position. Turn the parking brake wire adjusting nut No.1 until the parking brake pedal travel is correct.
- Using a spanner or equivalent to hold the parking brake adjusting nut, tighten the lock nut to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
- Count the number of clicks after depressing and releasing the parking brake pedal 3 or 4 times.
- Check whether the parking brake drags or not. If the parking brake drags, adjust the shoe clearance.
- When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the parking brake pedal indicator light comes on at the first notch. If not, adjust the parking brake switch installation position.
- Install the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.2.
- Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy No.1.
- Install the outer mirror switch assy.
- Install the coin box assy.
- Install the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.1.
- Install the instrument cluster finish panel center lower.
- Install the instrument cluster finish panel end.
