Removal & Installation

2006 Models

NOTE

Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION
After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

Discharge the air conditioning system.

Remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.

Remove the subdisplay visor. Remove the navigation system, if equipped. On vehicles without navigation system remove the radio.

Remove the dashboard retaining screws. Detach the retaining clips along the lower edge of the instrument panel.

Detach the retaining clips along the upper edge of the instrument panel. Gently pull forward to release the hooks from the holder of the gauge module.

Remove the instrument panel.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the wire harness clip. Disconnect the connector from the recirculation control motor.

Disconnect the connectors from the mode control motor, the evaporator temperature sensor and the power transistor. Remove the wire clip harness.

Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor and the air conditioning wire harness. Remove the connector clip and the wire harness clips.

Remove the mounting bolt, mounting nuts and the heater/blower unit from the vehicle.

Remove the self taping screws, remove the grommet and carefully pry out the heater core.

To install:

Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant, as required.

Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Enter the antitheft codes for the radio and the navigation system.

Reprogram the power window control unit as follows.

Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.

Turn the ignition switch OFF. Push and hold the drivers window DOWN switch. Turn the ignition switch ON. Release the driver-s window DOWN switch. This must be done within five seconds.

Repeat the above step three more times. Wait one second.

Confirm that the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work repeat the procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit

Move the driver-s window all the way down by holding the drivers window DOWN switch to the AUTO DOWN position.

Pull up and hold the driver-s window UP switch to the AUTO UP position until the window reaches the fully closed position. Hold the switch for one second.

Confirm that the power window master switch has been reset by using the driver-s window AUTO UP and DOWN function.

If the AUTO UP and DOWN feature is still not working, repeat the complete procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit.

Set the clock.

CAUTION
Wait at least 3 minutes for the SRS to deplete its energy before working on the steering wheel or instrument panel.

In the engine compartment, remove the heater valve cable clamp; then, disconnect the heater valve cable and rotate the heater valve to the fully open position.

Drain the engine coolant into a clean container for reuse.

Remove or disconnect the following:

Heater hoses from the heater unit
Heater housing-to-chassis nuts
Instrument panel
Steering hanger beam mounting bolts and the steering hanger beam

Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant

Remove the evaporator housing by removing or disconnecting the following:Remove or disconnect the following:

Refrigerant lines. Discard the O-rings. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
Thermostat electrical connector
Drain hose and remove the evaporator housing.

Electrical connector from the mode control motor
Wiring harness clips from the heater housing
Heater housing-to-chassis nuts and the heater housing
Heater housing screws and separate the housings
Heater core from the heater housing

To install:

Install or connect the following:

Heater core to the heater housing
Assemble the housings and install the heater housing screws
Heater housing and the heater housing-to-chassis nuts
Wiring harness clips to the heater housing
Electrical connector to the mode control motor

Install the evaporator housing:

Evaporator housing and connect the drain hose
Evaporator housing-to-chassis screws, the bolt and nuts
Thermostat electrical connector and the wiring harness to the evaporator
Refrigerant lines using new O-rings
Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant

Install or connect the following:

Steering hanger beam and the steering hanger beam mounting bolts
Instrument panel
Heater housing-to-chassis nuts
Heater hoses to the heater unit
