Lexus: Wheel Speed Sensors Removal?

2001 Lexus wheel speed sensor :--

In this the diagrams are shown of jeep grand Cherokee,so don't get confused.Its one and same.Cherokee diagrams were more clearer,so they are shown.


Wheel Speed Sensors



Removal & Installation



Front

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Remove the caliper adaptor bolts. Support the caliper and adaptor assembly. Do Not let assembly hang by the hose.
  4. Remove the disc brake rotor
  5. Remove the front wheel sensor mounting nut to the hub .
  6. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the hub.
  7. Disconnect the wire sensor routing clips .
  8. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor wire connector.
  9. Remove the sensor and wire.
To install:
  1. Reconnect the wheel speed sensor wire connector .
  2. Reroute and connect the wheel speed sensor wire to the routing clips .
  3. Install the wheel speed sensor into the hub and the install the mounting nut and tighten the nut to 106-124 inch lbs. (12-14 Nm).
  4. Check the sensor wire routing . Be sure the wire is clear of all chassis components and is not twisted or kinked at any spot.
  5. Install the disc brake rotor.
  6. Install the caliper adaptor over the rotor.
  7. Install the caliper adaptor bolts and tighten to 66-85 ft. lbs. (90-115 Nm).
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  9. Remove the support and lower vehicle.
Mounted In The Hub And Bearing Assembly
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Disconnect the connector from the speed sensor.
  5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  6. Using a pin punch and hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from SST 09520-00031.
  7. Mount the front axle hub in a soft jaw vise.
  8. Using SST 09520-00031 (09520-00040, 09521-00020), 09950-00020and 2 bolts (Diameter: 12mm, Pitch: 1.5mm), remove the speed sensor.
To install:
  1. Clean the contacting surface of the axle hub and a new speed sensor.

  2. Place the speed sensor on the axle hub so that the connector will be positioned as shown in the illustration under the on-vehicle condition.
  3. Using SST 09214-7601 1 and a press, install a new speed sensor to the axle hub.
    CAUTION
    Do not tap the speed sensor with a hammer directly. Check that there should be no foreign objects on the speed sensor detection portion.
  4. Install the speed sensor to the front axle.
  5. Connect the speed sensor connector.
  6. Install fender liner.
  7. Install front wheel.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Check for speed sensor signal.
Mounted Separately
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Remove fender liner, if necessary.
  5. Disconnect the connector from the speed sensor.
  6. Remove the clamp bolts holding the sensor harness and clamp from the body and shock absorber.
  7. Remove the bolt and speed sensor. Do not stick and foreign matter on the sensor tip.
To install:
  1. Install the speed sensor with the bolt and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm). Make sure the sensor tip is clean.
  2. Install the sensor harness clamps
  3. Connect the speed sensor connector and clamp.
  4. Install fender liner.
  5. Install front wheel.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Check for ABS signal.
Rear
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt from the rear support plate .
  3. Remove the wheel speed sensor the support plate.
  4. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector .

To install:
  1. Insert the wheel speed sensor through the support plate .
  2. Tighten the wheel speed sensor bolt to 106-124 inch lbs. (12-14 Nm).
  3. Secure the wheel speed sensor wire to the routing clips. Verify that the sensor wire is secure and clear of the rotating components.
  4. Reconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector .
  5. Lower the vehicle.
