Removal & Installation
1MZ-FE Engines
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Drain the transaxle fluid.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cable.HoodBattery and battery trayAccelerator and throttle cablesCruise control actuator, if equippedAir cleaner assembly, mass air flow meter and air cleaner hoseRadiatorEngine relay box2 igniter connectorsNoise filter connectorConnector from the left-hand fender apron2 ground straps and any other electrical connections keeping them from being removedVacuum hoses from the engine.Fuel inlet and return hosesHeater hosesTransaxle control cable from the transaxleInstrument panel undercover, the lower instrument panel and glove box assembly3 ECM connectors, the 5 cowl wire connectors, and the cooling fan ECM connector. Push the engine wire through the cowl panel.Front exhaust pipeHalfshaftsPower steering pressure tubePower steering pumpA/C compressor without disconnecting the hosesLeft-hand engine mounting insulatorRight-hand engine mounting insulatorEngine mounting shock absorberFront right engine mounting insulator - Attach a hoist chain to the engine hangers.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTEMake certain all wires, connectors and hoses are cleared from the engine.
Coolant reservoir hose and reservoir tankRight-side engine mounting stay bracketEngine control rod and bracket assembly
Engine/transaxle assembly from the vehicle
To install:
- Carefully lower the engine position. Keep the engine level while aligning the engine mounts.
- Install or connect the following:
Engine control rod and bracket. Tighten to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).Right engine mount stay bracket. Tighten to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).Engine ground straps.Coolant reservoir tankFront engine insulator. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (66 Nm).Engine mounting shock absorber. Tighten to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).Left and right engine mounts. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (66 Nm).Power steering pump and A/C compressorPower steering pressure tubeHalfshafts and front exhaust pipeEngine wires and connectorsTransaxle control cable to the transaxleFuel hoses and heater hosesAll vacuum hoses, wiring and connectorsRadiatorCruise control actuatorThrottle cable and accelerator cableMAF meter, the air cleaner assembly, and air cleaner hoseHoodBattery tray and batteryNegative battery cable - Refill the cooling system to the correct level.
- Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
- Fill the transmission with oil to the correct level.
- Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
