Inspection
Inspect the accessory drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged accessory drive belts should be replaced immediately.
Removal & Installation
3.6L Engine
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the right engine splash shield.
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the accessory drive belt tension.
- Remove the accessory drive belt from the alternator.
- Slowly release the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove the accessory drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
To install:
- Install the accessory drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise.
- Install the accessory drive belt to the alternator.
- Ensure the accessory drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
- Slowly release the accessory drive belt tensioner
- Install the right engine splash shield.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Lift or rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner using a 15mm box end wrench on the pulley nut.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Install the accessory drive belt
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner using a 15mm box end wrench on the pulley nut.
Adjustment
The accessory drive belt adjustment is maintained by an automatic tensioner.
