The procedure is similar for both ford and Lincoln car models:-----
Ford diesel engine model 6.0L.
The procedure is similar for ford F series Trucks and Lincoln Mark LT.
Turbocharger
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Details are mentioned below:----
6.0L Diesel Engines
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the engine vent and radiator vent hoses.
- Remove the bolts and position the degas bottle (coolant reservoir) aside.
- Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger.
- Remove the nuts and the turbocharger intake tube.
- Disconnect the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) inlet pipe.
- Remove the push pins from the shield above the turbocharger.
- Disconnect the two wiring harness push pins and position aside.
- Disconnect the turbocharger variable vane hydraulic control valve electrical connector.
- Remove the bolts for the turbocharger oil supply tube.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Remove the bolt and the wire retainer from the turbocharger.
- Remove the clamp from the turbocharger outlet.
- Remove the clamp from the turbocharger inlet.
Early build
- Remove the rear turbocharger mounting bolt.
Late build
- Remove the bolt and turbocharger oil supply tube.
- Remove and discard the O-ring.
- Remove the rear turbocharger mounting bolt.
All vehicles
- Remove the front mounting bolts.
- Position the turbocharger and remove the turbocharger drain tube.
- Remove and discard the drain tube O-rings.
- Remove the turbocharger. Remove the bolts and the turbocharger pedestal.
To install:
All vehicles
- Position the turbocharger on the turbocharger pedestal.
NOTEInstall new O-rings and apply clean engine oil. - Position the turbocharger and install the turbocharger drain tube.
Late build
- Install the turbocharger and the rear mounting bolt. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
NOTEInstall a new O-ring and apply clean engine oil. - Install the oil supply tube. Torque to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
- Position the locking bracket and install the bolt.
Early build
- Install the turbocharger and the rear mounting bolt. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
- Install the oil feed tube.
All vehicles
- Install the turbocharger front mounting bolts. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
- Install the turbocharger inlet clamp.
- Install the turbocharger exhaust clamp.
- Position the wire retainer and install the bolt.
- Pre-lubricate the oil inlet hole of the turbocharger assembly with clean engine oil and spin the compressor wheel several times to coat the bearing with oil.
- Position the oil feed tube and install the bolts.
- Install a new gasket.
- Connect the turbocharger variable vane hydraulic control valve electrical connector.
- Position the wiring harness and connect the push pins.
- Install the push pins.
- Connect the charge air cooler inlet pipe.
- Install the turbocharger intake tube.
