The procedure is similar for both ford and Lincoln car models:-----
Its for
F150 1/2 ton P/U 2WD/ 4WD
F250 Super Duty P/U 2WD/4WD
F350 Super Duty P/U 2WD/4WD
F450 Super Duty P/U 2WD/4WD
F550 Super Duty P/U 2WD/4WD
And Lincoln Mark LT car models.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe and the air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the power steering reservoir support bracket-to-intake manifold bolt.
- Remove the 2 power steering reservoir support bracket-to-cylinder head bolts and position the power steering reservoir and support bracket assembly aside.
- Remove the bolt and position the oil level indicator aside.
NOTEWhen reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector retaining clip area before separating from the tube. - Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube quick connect fitting.
- Push the connector toward the tube to release pressure.
- Push the release tab clockwise.
- Disconnect the quick connect fitting.
- Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module-to-exhaust manifold tube.
- Disconnect the 3 engine wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the 5 LH valve cover studs.
- Remove the 5 LH valve cover bolts.
- Remove the LH valve cover bolt.
WARNINGDo not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant. - Remove the LH valve cover. Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
To install:
- Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover and install the new valve cover gasket.
NOTEIf the valve cover is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
- Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
- Connect the 3 engine wiring harness retainers.
- Install the EGR system module-to-exhaust manifold tube. Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
NOTEMake sure the quick connect fitting clicks into place when installing the tube. To make sure that the quick connect fitting is fully seated, pull on the tube. Apply clean engine oil to the end of the tube before connecting the fitting. - Connect the crankcase ventilation tube quick connect fitting.
- Position the oil level indicator and install the bolt. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
- Position the power steering reservoir and support bracket assembly and install the 2 power steering reservoir support bracket-to-cylinder head bolts. Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
- Install the power steering reservoir support bracket-to-intake manifold bolt. Tighten to 11 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
- Connect the battery ground cable.
- Install the air cleaner outlet pipe and the air cleaner assembly.
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) and bracket.
WARNINGWhen reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector retaining clip area before separating from the tube.
- Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube quick connect fitting at the valve cover and position aside.
- Push the connector towards the tube to release pressure.
- Push the release tab clockwise.
- Disconnect the quick connect fitting.
- Remove the bolt and position the transmission fluid level indicator tube aside.
- Release the 5 engine wiring harness retainers from the valve cover stud bolts.
- Remove the 3 RH valve cover bolts.
- Remove the 8 RH valve cover studs.
- Remove the nuts and position the suction accumulator aside.
WARNINGDo not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant. - Remove the RH valve cover. Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Discard the valve cover gasket. - Apply the silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
- Install the valve cover and tighten the valve cover bolts in the sequence shown. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
- Install the suction accumulator and install the nuts. Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
- Attach the 5 engine wiring harness retainers to the valve cover stud bolts.
- Position the transmission fluid level indicator tube and install the bolt. Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
NOTEMake sure the quick connect fitting clicks into place when installing the tube. To make sure that the quick connect fitting is fully seated, pull on the tube. Apply clean engine oil to the end of the tube before connecting the fitting. - Connect the PCV tube quick connect fitting.
- Install the PCM and bracket.
