Timing Chain Cover & Seal Removal on Dodge Dakota?

The dodge Timing Chain Cover & Seal removal details.

The complete step by step procedure for 3.7L and 4.7L.

The details are as follows:----


Removal & Installation



3.7L Engine
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove electric cooling fan and fan shroud assembly.
  4. Remove radiator fan.
  5. Disconnect both heater hoses at timing cover.
  6. Disconnect lower radiator hose at engine.
  7. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner assembly.
  8. Remove crankshaft damper.
  9. Remove the generator.
  10. Remove A/C compressor.
    NOTE
    It is not necessary to remove the water pump for timing cover removal.
  11. Remove the bolts holding the timing cover to engine block.
  12. Remove the timing cover.
To install:
  1. Clean timing chain cover and block surface using rubbing alcohol. Do not use oil based liquids to clean timing cover or block surfaces.
    WARNING
    Use only rubbing alcohol, along with plastic or wooden scrapers. Use no wire brushes or abrasive wheels or metal scrapers, or damage to surfaces could result.
  2. Inspect the water passage o-rings for any damage, and replace as necessary.
  3. Apply Mopar® Engine RTV sealer to front cover as shown using a 3 to 4mm thick bead.
  4. Install cover. Tighten fasteners in sequence as shown in to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).

  5. Install crankshaft damper.
  6. Install the A/C compressor.
  7. Install the generator.
  8. Install accessory drive belt tensioner.
  9. Install radiator upper and lower hoses.
  10. Install both heater hoses.
  11. Install radiator fan.
  12. Fill cooling system.
4.7L Engine
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
    Valve covers
    Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor
    Engine cooling fan and shroud
    Accessory drive belt
    Heater hoses
    Lower radiator hose
    Power steering pump
    Crankshaft damper
    Oil fill housing
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
    Alternator
    A/C compressor
    Front cover
    Front crankshaft seal
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Front cover. Tighten the bolts, in sequence, to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
    Front crankshaft seal
    Cylinder head access plugs
    A/C compressor
    Alternator
    Accessory drive belt tensioner. Tighten the bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
    Oil fill housing
    Crankshaft damper. Tighten the bolt to 130 ft. lbs. (175 Nm).
    Power steering pump
    Lower radiator hose
    Heater hoses
    Accessory drive belt
    Engine cooling fan and shroud
    Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor
    Valve covers
    Negative battery cable
  2. Fill the cooling system.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
