Error code P0420 Retrieved in Scan test.
Catalytic converter needs inspection.
The P0420 is a fairly straight forward code pointing to a deteriorating Catalytic Converter. The Oxygen Sensors measure the amount of emissions in the exhaust going into, and then out of the converter. When they see the converter is not "cleaning" the exhaust enough to meet specs, the converter is deemed "below threshold" and the P0420 is set.
In this case for troubleshooting
If these all possibilities checks ok, most commonly, the converter will need to be replaced in the very near future. Keep in mind, you will need a converter that meets GM specs. Those "universal" or "discount" converters that are commonly sold will NOT cure the problem.Because there performance will be low and Engine computer will not detect those Cat converters.
This details will help.
Thanks.

- Make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust system.
- Make sure there are no current cylinder misfires.
