To remove or to see the exact location of the relay, follow this simple procedure stand in front of the jeep. Remove gently the left front headlamp . A hole will need to be cut in the plastic at the bottom OR you can remove the entire front bumper to access the rad fan relay. New ones are about 120 from the dealer less at discount places .
It's the square part with the blue label and wire coming from it.
See the diagram of relay:---
BEFORE REPLACING THE RELAY TEST THE RELAY TO CONFIRM WHETHER ITS FAULTY OR NOT.
THE PROCEDURE TO TEST THE RELAY IS AS FOLLOWS:---------
Go to the fan relay and bypass the relay by jumping the Gray wire to the Light Green wire and see if the fan runs. If it does, connect the relay and try grounding the Dark Blue/Pink wire to see if the fan comes on. If not, the cooling fan relay is faulty.
NOW TO ACCESS THE RELAY.
To cut the access hole for the relay, remove the passenger side headlight.
Its simple, remove the jackscrew on top of the headlight.
For you kind information the mentioned jackscrew is on top of the headlamp and does NOT screw into the radiator core support.
Once the jackscrew is completely out (its 6" long), grasp the headlight assembly and forcefully pull the headlamp outward. Unplug the headlight wiring harness.
Now your task is more simple.
Unscrew the two screws holding the relay to the body.
There isn't alot of slack in the wire, but you will be very easily able to pull the relay out of the hole and disconnect it. The locking click are delicate so release it gently to avoid breakage.
Also view this wiring diagram showing how the cooling fan relay operates and from where it gets power :----
one wire should have power, one wire should have ground and the other wire from the computer. The last wire goes from the relay to the fan. Here is your wiring diagram.
This will help.
Thanks.
